WAMUNC programming is proud to provide the same high level of stimulating education and entertaining activities, for both delegates and faculty, which extend beyond just the committee session. We have striven to provide not only a conference, but an experience, one that is devoted to educational development which goes beyond the committee experience, and into a realm which attempts to truly integrate and delve into the wider world, upon which the context of the pressing international issues arrive.
Aside from the highly regarded committees that are developed and implemented by the talented students of the George Washington University create, delegate are offered the opportunity for excursions to leading think tanks, embassies, government agencies, or international institutions on briefings, speeches, and addresses by leaders in their fields. Taking place on Friday afternoon session, these excursions have taken delegates into the halls of Congress, the Pan-American Health Organization, the World Bank and Organization of American States, as well as numerous Embassies including those of Japan, Israel and Mexico. These efforts are done so that when the delegates debate and devise their strategies, they do so having learned from a leader in the topics under discussion.
Washington, DC is one of America’s truly cities of culture, history, and art and WAMUNC takes full advantage of the benefits Washington has to offer. The George Washington University’s situation in the heart of Washington, and WAMUNC with it, makes it the ideal location to explore the wider city. WAMUNC offers on Friday morning the opportunity for escapes into the cultural, historic, and social institutions that our city has to offer. These excursions, led and supervised by the staff of WAMUNC, allows delegates to explore the city of Washington and have taken delegates to the Smithsonian’s, U.S. Capitol tours, the Library of Congress, the National Archives, and many more. With many of our delegates coming from around the nation and world, it is important that our delegates make the most of the opportunity to truly experience the American Capital.
Despite WAMUNC’s commitment to educational development and knowledge as the primary goal of the conference, our desire to create a positive experience not only intellectually but also socially. As a result, WAMUNC every year puts on delegate fest, a supervised dance with a professional DJ. Delegates will have the opportunity to take off their diplomat role and enjoy the company of their fellow classmates in a relaxed atmosphere.
We also strive to ensure that the faculty of WAMUNC delegates are afforded the same caliber experience which students are offered, and every year we produce a set of programming designed specifically for faculty. These often will include speakers on topics in regards to the teaching of Model UN or different strategies for encouraging involvement, in addition to other programs like Model OAS, or Congress that faculty may be interested in.
